The Golf Academy offers a range of coaching options with all instruction designed to suit the requirements of each individual. If you are having trouble getting the ball in the fairway or out of a bunker or if you are simply interested in starting to try golf for the first time we have the way to help you get the most out of your experience. Our professional is PGA qualified to ensure your lesson experience is enjoyable, educational and progressive.

Dear Members and Guests,
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Zander Potgieter and I am the Head Professional at Ras Al Hamra Golf Club. I am a fully qualified AA PGA Professional through the PGA of South Africa and have been teaching golf for more than 10 years at some of the best golf facilities in the Middle East and South Africa.
At the Ras Al Hamra Golf Academy we have a variety of lesson options to cater for all levels of golfer, from absolute beginners to seasoned players. Whether you’re looking for individual or group instruction we have a solution for your game.
We pride ourselves in having one of the largest junior academies in Oman and have a passion for developing junior golfers from the age of 5 up to 18.

When was the first time you picked up a club?
My grandfather had some old golf clubs that we found in the shed and I started playing around and hitting golf balls in their back garden around the age of 9.
Who is your golf idol?
I have always admired Tiger Woods for his achievements and dominance during his career – he revolutionized the game of golf and sparked interest in the game from a much younger crowd of players. On a more local level I have always admired Ernie Els for his smooth golf swing and effortless power which I try and emulate to this day!
Favorite golfing memory?
Having played the game for over 25 years I have a lot of good memories from playing the game, winning my home club championship, shooting my best round of 63, winning tournaments as a professional but to be honest the best memories come from seeing the people I help with their game to have their moment of understanding and change, those moments are the best and most rewarding.
What advice would you give to someone considering starting to play golf?
Don’t take yourself too seriously – the game of golf is meant to be enjoyed for the challenge and intricacies that come with it. Get professional instruction to ensure a solid foundation of basics and enjoy the journey of finding your swing – it will be a journey filled with highs and lows but it will be the best journey you’ll ever embark on.
